Weekend away! And My New Favorite Song–“I Refuse”

I snuck my family off yesterday afternoon and we spent a lovely couple of days at the Stephen Foster Cultural Center in White Springs, FL. He’s the composer of many American folk songs including “O, Susanna!,” “Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair,” and of course, “Old Folks at Home”–(“Way down upon the Suwanee River”) which is Florida’s state song. It was great weather and we were able to go hiking, do a little fishing, make s’mores, look around the museum and shops and generally enjoy ourselves greatly. It’s good to get away once in awhile!

This morning during my quiet time I heard this song on the radio. I hadn’t ever really listened to the words as closely as I was able to today, but what a wonderful message–one I’m taking to heart!

I Refuse

Sometimes I, I just want to close my eyes

And act like everyone’s alright

When I know they’re not

This world needs God, but it’s easier to stand and watch

I could pray a prayer and just move on

Like nothing’s wrong

But I Refuse

I don’t want to live like I don’t care

I don’t want to say another empty prayer

Oh, I refuse to sit around and wait for someone else

To do what God has called me to do myself

I could choose not to move

But I refuse

I can hear the least of these, crying out so desperately

And I know we are the hands and feet of You, oh God

So if You say move, it’s time for me to follow through

And do what I was made to do

And show them who You are

I don’t want to live like I don’t care

I don’t want to say another empty prayer

Oh, I refuse to sit around and wait for someone else

To do what God has called me to do myself

I could choose not to move

But I refuse

I refuse to stand and watch the weary and lost cry out for help

I refuse to turn my back and try and act like all is well

I refuse to stay unchanged, to wait another day to die to myself

I refuse to make one more excuse

I don’t want to live like I don’t care

I don’t want to say another empty prayer

Oh, I refuse to sit around and wait for someone else

To do what God has called me to do myself

I could choose not to move

But I refuse

Which means I have a passport and plane ticket to Brasil to buy.  And many prayers to be praying as I ponder the next steps to take with this blog and all the words running rampant in my head.  What do you need to refuse to do?  Or NOT to do?

I love the song “I refuse”! I’ve been pondering on it a lot lately too. One of the things that I always think about is I refuse to not grow and move spiritually. Although the song is talking about DOING stuff, I think more along the lines of studying our Bibles and learning and growing in God. We can’t ever assume we ‘know it all’.

That’s just my take on it. The song is very awesome and it always gets turned up when it comes on! :)
