Ready … or Not? Still Grateful

This is what I should look like right now.

Here’s more how I actually look.

I’m tired. I have a cold. And apparently, we will *not* officially start the school year today. Despite much gathering of supplies, filling out of planners, and plans for a summer full of de-cluttering, organizing, and redecorating, I’m just flat not ready.

And you know what? That’s okay. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the past 15 years of homeschooling, it’s that my plans aren’t always best, anyway. Oh, it’s not that we shouldn’t plan –“Failing to plan is planning to fail,” and all that — that’s a recipe for disaster. Looking at where we’re at and where we want to go is absolutely necessary. Praying over our schedules and determining a course is vital. And yet … sometimes, you hit a road block.

Ours look like this: The boys went on a last-minute four day camping trip, and the eldest came home with something that looks like the flu. Shocking all of us, my one year old turned two, with all the accompanying loveliness that entails; fit-throwing, screaming, blazing selfishness and all. The dance studio we love and are doing some remodeling to as a labor of love is going to be about ten times as much work as we thought it would be (surprise! Isn’t that pretty typical of “labor?”) — oh, and it needs to be done by next Monday. And somehow, it slipped my memory/mind/planning part of my brain that my trip to be with Sally Clarkson for the Mom Heart Leadership Intensive means I’ll be gone from Thursday until … oh yes, Monday morning at 8:55, as I’m on an overnight flight home since I booked it so late.

Sigh. I know, it’s making me tired thinking about it all, too.

So I’m off to start a pot of coffee, make some breakfast, find some cold medicine, reorganize the school cabinet, switch the wash to the dryer, pick up some last minute school supplies, and prepare for our first day of Challenge tomorrow morning! I pray your day is full of grace.

My prayer for you today … from Psalm 20

May the LORD answer you in the day of trouble!
May the name of the God of Jacob set you securely on high!

May He send you help from the sanctuary
          And support you from Zion!

Still counting … forever counting His gifts!

*being able to let go *air conditioning *little girls with cats (and yes, that’s a matching dress … I think it was meant for a doll …)

* new students! *girls with their dance teacher, a wonderful gift

*hearing the Lion’s roar … best way ever to start the day

” And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.” Revelation 5:5

Life happens. Sorry you’re not getting to start your school year today…it’s sure a bummer to get all phsyced up for something and then have it get messed up.
I really wish I could be starting too, but don’t have all my curriculum together :(
    Have fun on your trip!

Amen!  ALL things in HIS time.

Praying for you to feel better and for things to be smooth this week!

    I love you!

  3. If it makes ya feel any better…we don’t even start the school year until mid-Sept…so you’re WAY ahead of schedule from our perspective :)
Stopping right now to pray that your time at the conference has been encouraging (and that you are feeling better).
Love that He knows all this.
    Nothing catches Him by surprise.
In His time…He makes all things beautiful…in His time…

I’m wishing we had a September start date, too, but wonder if it would help! So grateful He loves us and knows all! 😉
