You Are Here

You Are Here

You are here.

Not far off in the sky somewhere

Removed from all I know and bear

But here.

Present, breathing, watching, seeing

Upholding me when the waters threaten

Here.

Oh, Lord, make me mindful of You!

I stop and sit and rest and remember

And I can almost truly know, almost touch

–then back door bursts open and children hurry in

And I forgot pen, and paper, and candle to light

And someone needs help, and I must make lunch

And the world interrupts with its rush, rush, rush

But I am ready.

Because I’ve been reminded

You are here.

“Am I a God who is near,” declares the LORD,
“And not a God far off?
“Can a man hide himself in hiding places
So I do not see him?” declares the LORD.
“Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the LORD.

Jeremiah 23:23-24
