Are We Following Jesus? Or Coming to See Him?

“His mother and His brothers came to Him, and they were unable to get to Him because of the crowd.” Lk 8:19

The Christmas season is a busy one for everyone. Hustle and bustle, wrapping and cooking, shopping and cooking; it almost looks as if all the world is really preparing for the coming of Jesus! Of course, if God has already invaded our lives, we know He’s already come. And if we can pause long enough to breathe, we can even enjoy the crazy busy-ness of it all.

But we should ask ourselves, are we truly walking with Jesus? Are we really living out the miracle of the fact that He’s already come?

Are we part of Jesus’ family, yet failing to follow Him on a moment by moment basis? Do we just ‘come to Him’ once in awhile; in times of need or once a week, rather than walking with Him day by day?

Lk 8:21says, “My mother and my brothers are those who hear and do the word of God.” May we keep close enough to Jesus to hear the words He wants to speak to our hearts! As Beth Moore says in Jesus: 90 Days With the One and Only, “…our kinship to Jesus Christ is directly revealed through what we do with the Word of God … Studying His Word is not just a good idea. It is the very warmth and vitality of the family bloodline–proof that we are family to Jesus Christ.”
