He Has Won!

Wednesday night, we sang.

It was a long, long day. Disappointment, misunderstandings, too many requests and not enough me frayed edges already threadbare.

The afternoon and evening was a jumble of strings; places to go, responsibilities to meet, meals to be eaten and classes to take. At the end, the prize: gathering with church family to worship the One Who holds it all. Wasn’t sure if we would even make it.

Sometimes it’s a battle just to get there.

Finding my usual seat filled my heart with expectation. Familiar, the space itself began to bring peace to my frazzled soul. Music coaxed out the cry of my heart. His Word read aloud spoke comfort. Love from friends put a balm on wounded places.

And the anthem brought hope …

Hallelujah, You have won the victory

Hallelujah, You have won it all for me …

Once in awhile, knowing grammar is a really spiritual thing.

“Have won.” Present perfect tense. It means, He won in the past, and the winning continues today.  And that’s what I needed most; to know He has already fought and won every battle I find myself in right now. Every concern, every fear, every difficulty is already under His control. I need not worry. I need not lose my peace, or give up, or lament the loss of time or the enemy’s apparent victory.

Truth will be known. Righteousnes will prevail. He knows my heart. His callings are without repentance, His word will not return void.

He has won!
