“Misty Krasawski is the overly-blessed mom of eight children whom she homeschools in sunshine-y Florida. She has been clinging ferociously to the hand of her Lord since she was knee-high to a grasshopper, homeschooling for the past thirteen years, and has eighteen more years ahead of her with the children who are glad she will have done most of her experimenting on those who went before. Her wonderful husband Rob has much treasure laid up for him in heaven for having been called to such a daunting task. She also is the Community Director for MomHeart Online and a regular contributor to Heart of the Matter Online and Sisters in Bloom.”

The above paragraph has been my “bio” for several years (minus the MomHeart and SistersinBloom tags, of course!) While it’s been tweaked a few times (the number of children has changed, as have the number of years I’ve been homeschooling, of course!) the basic form has remained the same.

But I’ve realized it might not really tell you much about who I actually am.

So, let’s fix that, shall we?

I am the eldest of three and grew up in the Midwest. We didn’t attend church regularly or talk about Jesus at my house, but God graciously reached out to me and drew my heart to His very early on. I remember Christmas Eves at my grandma’s church where I cried through singing “Silent Night” by candlelight every year, spending birthday money on devotional books, sitting transfixed before the television during every World Vision/Feed the Children special that ever came on, and gathering the kids in my neighborhood at the local park to teach them my version of vacation Bible school–when I was 8, 9 and 10 years old. I am very grateful that I have always known God loves me and wants me to be with Him; I truly don’t know where I’d be without having had that knowledge.

I moved across the country to Massachusetts the year I graduated, having been offered a job as a nanny. At that point, adventure sounded like just what I needed. In God’s providence I found the perfect church for me quickly and the Lord placed me into a family; that of the youth pastors who had a daughter my age … and a son four years younger, who eventually grew up and became my husband.

Today we live in sunny Florida, and I work hard at getting over that every fall and winter. We are extremely blessed to be part of a healthy, dynamic church as well as a great homeschool community where I serve as a tutor.

I always knew I wanted a big family (blame it on playing the lead in Cheaper by the Dozen in high school, I suppose!) But even I am sometimes surprised at the sheer bulk of *eight* of them! Alternating between being kept on my toes and driven to my knees, there’s never a dull moment around here.

I love to write. I believe God’s placed books within me, and if I could just figure out exactly what to focus on I might get one of them out someday. I long to encourage moms to pour their hearts into their children and make their homes a haven for their families. So this blog is where I come to do that; to put out the things God whispers in my ear through His Word or sermons or just the day to day circumstances of my life. I pray as you read, your own heart will glow with the light of His love, and you’ll feel encouraged to press on in your own life as a mother, wife, and daughter of the King.

My laundry sometimes piles high. So do my dishes. There are way too many crumbs on my floor. And I didn’t actually grade anyone’s math homework today. But this morning, before the day really began, I lit a candle and prayed for God’s grace to fill my home. I put on an apron and made a real, sit-down lunch. I made leaf-print art with the kids on the front porch, worked out with a friend, and drove my son and a neighbor to youth group … an hour away. At bedtime we read a story and snuggled, even though it was late. And right now I should be sweeping the living room, but instead I’m writing.

And that’s kindof the rhythm of my life. A little beauty, a little mess. A little work, a little fun. A little strife, a lot of grace.

Thank God for the grace.

Welcome to my little home with a big heart. I pray you read something that  encourages you! Please leave any comments or questions you may have, I’d love to chat.  And also, come back again sometime. I’ll put the tea kettle on!

    Dear Misty,
I was so grateful for your article in the HSLDA magazine entitled “1Corinthians 13 for Homeschool Moms”. I was wondering if our homeschool group might have permission to reprint it in our monthly newsletter? We are located in Casa Grande, Arizona (about halfway between Phoenix and Tucson) and have about 35 families in our group. Here is a link to our website: http://micasahomeschoolers.org/ No problem if you prefered we didn’t use it. :)
    Thank you for blessing me,
